School of Sanctuary

A School of Sanctuary is a school that is committed to being a safe and welcoming place for those seeking sanctuary. This could be people whose lives were in danger in their own country, who have troubles at home or are just looking for a space of safety.

A School of Sanctuary is a school that helps its students, staff and wider community understand what it means to be seeking sanctuary and to extend a welcome to everyone as equal, valued members of the school community. It is a school that is proud to be a place of safety and inclusion for all.

The Schools of Sanctuary Award is given by the City of Sanctuary movement to schools that have consistently put the sanctuary principles into practice.

We are very proud to say the Bowesfield School is a School of Sanctuary.

In July 2018, we received our School of Sanctuary Status. This is recognition for our commitment to being a safe school, which is a welcoming place for all.

The Language Ambassadors, along with Miss Tate, Miss Hodgeon and governors- Mr Bowes and Mrs Shannon, were invited to an award ceremony where they had an opportunity to discuss their roles and tell others about the superb work they do in school. Lots of people attended the event including: the Police Commissioner and Mayor of Stockton. The children and staff felt extremely proud and thoroughly enjoyed the ceremony!
