Relationships Education

In the DfE’s document, the purpose of relationships education is to ‘put in place the key building blocks of healthy, respectful relationships, focusing on family and friendships, in all contexts, including online. This will sit alongside the essential understanding of how to be healthy’.

As of September 2020, it is now compulsory for all Primary Schools to teach Relationships Education.

Through teaching RSE we ensure that children,

  • Develop confidence in talking, listening and thinking about feelings
  • Learn about relationships (including online) – families, respectful relationships, caring friendships
  • Can protect themselves and ask for help and support
  • Are able to name parts of the body and describe how their bodies work (These lessons are not taught in mixed classes but as single year groups)
  • Are prepared for puberty (These lessons are not taught in mixed classes but as single year groups)
